Most people do more homework when buying a pair of sneakers or a new iPhone than they do when buying stocks.

That’s not a joke. It’s a problem.

I recently came across a post from a well-known trainer in Singapore. It featured a US stock—UNH (UnitedHealth Group)—and the trainer mentioned adding more at $320, while also warning readers:

“This is NOT a recommendation.”

But the comments below were worrying.

• “Got it, I’ll buy more.”
• “Thanks, will buy in tranches.”
• “So you’re recommending it, right?”

Investors don’t fail because of bad luck.

They fail because they don't know what they’re doing.

And they refuse to do the basic homework. They listen to internet advice, influencer hype, or friend’s tips... and they press ‘Buy’ with real money.

But when it comes to investing, Buffett said it best:

It’s not how big it is—it’s knowing where the edge is and staying within it.”

The truth is, if you don’t know how to analyse companies, you shouldn't be putting your money into the market.

You wouldn’t buy a business without checking its financials, right?
